Bus driver in Washington faces DUI charges

On Behalf of | Apr 15, 2015 | Drunk Driving |

A senior center bus driver is facing serious charges that could end his career, according to local sources. The 45-year-old man is facing DUI charges after Washington authorities arrested him on April 8. The man is also facing similar charges for an unrelated incident as of this writing. If convicted he could lose his license and face jail time.

According to the arrest report, the man was arrested by Washington State Patrol officers after they received messages alleging that he was driving erratically. According to the 11 seniors on the bus at the time of his arrest, the man struck several stop signs and curbs, appeared distracted, and was talking on a phone and eating while driving. The seniors said they felt uneasy with him driving and asked him to pull over.

Police administered a blood test upon their arrival, which, upon review, seems to indicate the man may have been under the influence of medication at the time of his arrest. Apparently police received a warrant before proceeding with the blood test. The man now faces DUI charges, although it is unknown whether he is being held in police custody at this time.

While police say they received a warrant to administer a blood test, it will be important for proof of this warrant to be addressed in a Washington court. DUI charges have the capacity to end the career of a professional driver, so it will be vital for the man to proceed carefully as he plans his defense in court. A failure to do so could result in the man losing his license and even spending time in prison.
