Car accident in Washington leads to DUI charges

On Behalf of | Jun 10, 2015 | Drunk Driving |

According to local sources, a two-car accident back in May has led to charges being filed against one of the drivers involved. Washington police reports indicate the unidentified man will face DUI charges for his role in the crash. An investigation is still underway as of this report.

Specific details of the accident are not clear at this time, but it has been confirmed that two vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened around 3 a.m. on May 19. Washington police responded to the accident. Upon approaching the male driver involved, they say they could detect the strong odor of alcohol. It is unclear whether they spoke with the other driver involved, though it is likely.

The driver, whose vehicle allegedly contained an open beer can, apparently refused all roadside sobriety tests offered to him by attending officers. As a result, police arrested him on suspicion of DUI and booked him into a local jail pending further investigation. It has not been communicated whether the man remains in police custody at this time or if he is free on bail. No trial date has been announced.

It will be important for Washington authorities to ensure they have evidence to back up their version of events on the night in question. The defense may wish to review the arrest report and the incidences leading up to it in order to determine whether sufficient evidence exists to warrant DUI charges or the subsequent arrest. If any of this evidence does not match police accounts of the event, it is possible the charges against the driver may be dropped.
